Recent studies in centenarians have revealed that age-related changes in the gut microbiota are related to frailty and overall physical health.

Research found that fecal microbiota transplantation from young mice to old ones attenuated cognitive impairments and reversed some aspects of peripheral and brain immunity.

The potential benefits of fecal microbiota transplantation in obesity could rely on supplementation of low-fermentable fiber.
